How We Help

We support children and adolescents who find reading, writing, and spelling difficult — helping them feel more confident at school and at home. Our mobile speech and literacy services are delivered across Melbourne’s Inner Suburbs (e.g., Kew, Hawthorn, Richmond) and Outer South Eastern suburbs (e.g., Doveton, Narre Warren, Dandenong).

Assessment

We work through child-centred assessment, so we understand your child’s strengths and challenges. This helps to develop a plan to support your child to develop their skills and confidence.

Skills we assess:

Reading: decoding, fluency, and accuracy.
Spelling:
Writing skills: sentence structure, paragraphs, and expression.
Literacy foundations: phonological awareness, phonological memory and rapid automatised naming.

Assessment process works to:

  • Identify strengths and areas of difficulty
We build a clear picture of your child’s abilities

  • Inform educational planning
We provide tailored recommendations to help teachers, caregivers, and education support staff create effective, evidence-based learning opportunities for each child.

  • Collaborate on goal-setting
Work closely with parents/carers to develop meaningful goals and a practical plan that supports the child’s ongoing learning and communication development.

  • Measure progress
Track growth over time to ensure strategies are effective and adjust plans as needed.

Working with Families
Through assessment, we collaborate with children/adolescents and their parents/caregivers to:

  • Understand hopes and priorities for engaging with our service

  • Identify strengths and areas for growth

Typical Assessment Components:

  • Detailed case history
Gathering information from parents/caregivers about their child’s development, presenting concerns, strengths, and interests.

  • Standardised testing
Comparing your child’s skills to age-matched peers.

  • Questionnaires, checklists, or screeners
Using structured tools to capture specific aspects of learning and communication.

  • Collaboration with other professionals
With your permission, gather insights from teachers, psychologists, doctors, or other professionals to form a complete picture.
